BEIRUT (Lebanon) - The FIBA Regional Office-Asia continued furthering the development of game officiating in the region after successfully organizing a game officials workshop in Korea.
A total of 32 male and female participants gamely attended the three-day session held from July 8-10, which was made possible thanks to the collaborative effort of the Korea Basketball Association (KBA) and the Women's Korean Basketball League (WKBL).
The comprehensive program covered a wide range of topics from both theoretical and practical perspectives. Participants received the latest updates on refereeing standards and basketball rules, in addition to training in game management, communication techniques, and video analysis. Physical fitness sessions were also a key component of the workshop.
KBA President Kwon Hyuk-Woon expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to host such a high-quality learning experience..
"I would like to thank the FIBA Regional Office Asia for approving this referee workshop in Seoul, Korea. While I believe the referees from the WKBL are highly capable, there are limited opportunities to enhance their skills. I truly hope this productive and informative workshop will empower referees, help them improve, and equip them with the necessary officiating knowledge and tools, said the President of the KBA, Hyuk-Woon, Kwon.
WKBL Commissioner Sang-Hoon, Shin shared Kwon's enthusiasm.
"Even with the short period of time, I hope this effective training and practical experience of the workshop will positively contribute to making better judgements of the referees next season," he said.
WKBL Secretary General Yong-doo, Kim also highlighted the importance of collaboration.
"With the participation of the referees from WKBL, KBL, and KBA, we are aiming for close cooperation one another and holding such workshops more frequently and on a larger scale, which will greatly contribute to the overall development of Korean basketball," he said.
Looking ahead, the FIBA Regional Office-Asia plans to conduct more workshops in various countries, demonstrating its unwavering commitment to enhancing the quality of officiating and, consequently, the quality of the game itself.
