FIBA has published its global long-list of 38 elite referees for the 2026 Women’s Basketball World Cup — a diverse, handpicked group preparing through an intensive program to ensure world‑class officiating when the top 16 teams clash in September

MIES (Switzerland) – The FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026 is scheduled to take place in Berlin, Germany, from September 4 to September 13, 2026. As the sixteen qualified teams prepare to meet in the German capital, FIBA has officially released the "Long List" of 38 referees nominated to officiate the tournament. This initial nomination is the first step in ensuring the games are managed by a quality group of referees.

Road to Berlin

A final list of 28 referees will be selected at the end of the process to officiate the games in Berlin. To ensure everyone is ready, the group will participate in a 12-week online Pre-Competition Programme. This period focuses on practical preparation through video reviews and communication drills to stay aligned with current rules. The process concludes with a three-day Pre-Competition Camp held on-site in Berlin just before the opening tip-off, giving the referees time to practice together as a team to fine-tune the details.
