MIES (SWITZERLAND) - For the second consecutive year, the prestigious event will host the 'FIBA Global Referee Camp,' providing a unique platform for the development of FIBA Elite Programme referees.

Following a successful first edition last year, the 2025 camp has extended its reach, inviting 18 potential referees from 16 different countries across the globe. This diverse group includes four talented female referees, highlighting the growing opportunities for women in officiating.

FIBA Head of Refereeing Carl Jungebrand underlines the dynamic concept:

“The idea of the Camp is to have enough time to dive in for details that we do not discuss normally in the competitions and training. Therefore, FIBA wants to keep high standard with the supporting staff in the Camp for facilitating best possible opportunities for refereeing to advance in the development path.”

The camp's comprehensive program is designed to ensure consistency and excellence in refereeing throughout the tournament. Prior to the tip-off, the selected referees will engage in intensive preparation sessions aimed at aligning their understanding of the game and promoting seamless teamwork on the court. This crucial phase will cover 12 key topics, addressing various aspects of game. Beyond the pre-tournament preparation, the learning will continue as the referees analyse game clips after each game. This valuable exercise will provide opportunities for self-reflection, peer feedback, and expert guidance, ultimately contributing to their growth and development as top-level referees. The Global Referee Camp at the Youth-BCL highlights the commitment to nurturing refereeing talent on an international stage, ensuring a high standard of basketball for the young athletes competing.
