MIES (Switzerland) – The second edition of the CBA Referee Camp concluded on a high note in Xi'an, China, from February 7th to 10th, 2025. FIBA referees and promising Chinese prospects participated in the intensive four-day program, led by FIBA Referee Instructors Roberto Chiari (ITA) and Chantal Julien (FRA).
Building on the success of the first camp, CBA Camp 2025 showcased the progress of the participating referees. Roberto Chiari praised the significantly higher level of the referees compared to the previous year, highlighting their dedication and diligent work between camps. He noted their comprehensive understanding of FIBA manuals and materials, creating a fertile ground for advanced learning.
Chantal Julien shared this view, observing the referees' improved knowledge and ability to apply it practically. She was particularly impressed by their focus on the process of officiating during video analysis sessions, emphasizing their understanding of play situations rather than simply judging the outcome of calls. This analytical approach demonstrated a deeper understanding of the game and a commitment to continuous improvement.
The camp featured a standard but comprehensive curriculum, including video work, on-court walk-throughs, group discussions, in-depth video analyses, and scrimmage games. The collaborative environment nurtured valuable exchanges between instructors and participants, making CBA Camp 2025 a key platform for referee development in China.
