Syria full of gratitude following successful referees workshop

BEIRUT (Lebanon) - The FIBA Regional Office-Asia continued its efforts to improve game officiating following a successful referees workshop in Syria from February 14 to 16.

A total of 36 male and female participants attended the three-day session held in Damascus, made possible in cooperation with the Syrian Basketball Federation (SYBF).

 

The program included several subjects from both a theoretical and practical perspective, including the latest updates related to refereeing and basketball rules.

SYBF President, Mr. Tarif Koutrash, expressed gratitude as the workshop provided a much-needed boost to the National Federation's goal of further developing their referees.

"Since the situation in Syria has now come back to normal, we have been having a hard time reaching our target. Developing our game officials is one of our priorities, as they play a key role in the game of basketball," offered the amiable executive.

SYBF refereeing manager Maher Abou Hilanah was also grateful. "We are doing our best to improve the level of our referees and are working very closely with the FIBA Regional Office-Asia. and we thank them for their unwavering support," he stated.

These workshops are part of the FIBA Regional Office-Asia's plan to improve different departments of its National Member Federations, including the referees, which are undeniably an integral part of basketball games.
