Referee Instructor Course starts in Kuala Lumpur
A FIBA Referee Instructor Programme (FRIP) Level 1 Workshop started in Kuala Lumpur.

KUALA LUMPUR (Malaysia) – Nineteen aspiring referee instructors from the Asia-Oceania region have gathered in Kuala Lumpur for FIBA Referee Instructor Programme (FRIP) Level 1 workshop to get ready and trained for working with referees in their national regions. This intensive 4-day workshop follows an online preparatory phase that began already in August, reaching completion in assessments. The 9-week pre-study phase before the Workshop included a Home-Study Book and complementary e-learning training in three fields of expertise, namely Teaching & Learning, Basketball, and Refereeing Knowledge.

The focus of the workshop's first two days is on equipping participants with effective Teaching and Learning methodologies for referee training. FIBA Head of Refereeing, Carl Jungebrand, officially opened the session, setting the stage for collaborative learning. Participants were divided into groups to brainstorm and discuss innovative teaching strategies.
Teaching and Learning expert Simon Kirkland (UK) noted the high levels of motivation and enthusiasm displayed by the group. Day 1 was all about planning sessions and learners did their best! As referee instructor to be, Sharad Shafaghi (AUS) says, participants were eager to engage with the workshop material after the extensive online preparation. This face-to-face component provides a valuable opportunity for collaborative learning and knowledge sharing among future referee instructors.

The workshop will continue its focus on teaching and learning methodologies on day 2, ensuring participants are well-prepared to train referees effectively across the Asia-Oceania region.
